Cement particle boards (CSP) are one of the most popular materials for flooring due to their strength, durability and resistance to moisture. In this article, we will look at the stages of installing a DSP on the floor, and also give detailed instructions so that you can do this work yourself.
Advantages of cement bonded particle boards
Before moving on to the installation instructions, it is important to understand why DSP is often chosen for flooring:- Strength and durability. DSPs can withstand significant loads, which makes them ideal for use in high-traffic areas.
- Moisture resistance. These boards are highly resistant to moisture, which allows them to be used in bathrooms and kitchens.
- Fire resistance. DSPs do not support combustion, which increases the fire safety of the room.
- Environmentally friendly. The material does not contain harmful substances and is safe for health.
Installation of cement bonded particle boards (CSP) on the floor
Required materials and tools
To install the DSP on the floor you will need:- Cement particle boards
- Background (if necessary)
- Glue solution or self-tapping screws
- Waterproofing membrane (if necessary)
- Level
- Ruler and pencil
- Jigsaw or saw
- Screwdriver or drill
- Putty for joints
- Grinding machine or sandpaper
Preparing the base
- Surface cleaning. Make sure the subfloor is clean, dry and level. Remove all debris, dust and remnants of old coatings.
- Floor leveling. If necessary, use a leveling compound to remove uneven surfaces. If the floor has significant differences, they must be eliminated before installing the slabs.
- Waterproofing. If CBPBs are installed in rooms with high humidity, it is recommended to install a waterproofing membrane to prevent moisture penetration.
Laying the underlay
If your project includes an underlay, follow these steps:- Lay out the backing. Lay the underlay over the entire floor area, starting from the corner of the room. Make sure the backing lies flat on the surface.
- Secure the backing. Secure the backing with glue or a stapler so that it does not move during installation of the slabs.
Marking and cutting CBPB boards
- Markup. Using a ruler and pencil, mark the DSP according to the dimensions of your floor. Allow for clearances to compensate for material expansion (usually 3-5 mm).
- Cutting. Using a jigsaw or saw, carefully cut the slabs according to the markings. Use safety glasses and a dust mask.
Installation of slabs
- Laying the first slab. Start installation from the corner of the room. Place the first slab in place and make sure it is level.
- Fastening slabs. Secure the plate with glue or self-tapping screws. If you use self-tapping screws, screw them in increments of 20-30 cm around the perimeter and in the middle of the slab. The screw heads must be recessed into the surface of the slab.
- Installation of the following slabs. Lay subsequent slabs, fitting them tightly to the previously installed ones. Make sure that the joints between the slabs are minimal. Continue installation until installation is completed over the entire floor area.
Shutdown
- Filling seams. After laying all the slabs, fill the seams between them with joint putty. This will provide additional strength and tightness of the coating.
- Grinding. After the putty has dried, if necessary, sand the surface to eliminate unevenness and create a smooth floor.
- Finish. At this stage, you can lay the final covering: laminate, linoleum, tile or other covering of your choice.
Recommendations for caring for DSP
Cement particle boards do not require special care, but to keep them in good condition, follow a few simple recommendations:- Regularly clean the floor from dust and dirt using a damp cloth.
- Avoid prolonged exposure to water on the surface of the slabs.
- Renew the protective coating as necessary.
