The roof frame is its foundation. A poorly built rafter system, rotten sheathing, or missing waterproofing lead to leaks, condensation, mold, and heat loss. The Foreest team installs rafter systems of any complexity and mounts insulation layers following building codes and technology. We manufacture lumber for the work at our own sawmill.

Types of Rafters We Install
- Hanging rafters — for large spans without internal load-bearing walls.
- Lean-to rafters — classic solution for private homes with load-bearing walls.
- Mansard (broken) rafters — to increase living space under the roof.

Waterproofing and Vapor Barrier
Waterproofing protects insulation and rafters from external moisture. We use superdiffusive membranes with density from 140 g/m².
Vapor barrier protects insulation from internal moisture (vapor from the interior).
Roof Insulation
For the Kyiv region, recommended insulation thickness is from 200 mm of mineral wool.
Insulation Materials
- Mineral wool (Rockwool, Isover, Knauf) — non-combustible, breathable.
- Extruded polystyrene (XPS) — high strength, moisture-resistant.
- Expanded polystyrene (EPS) — budget option, but flammable.

Are counter-battens needed under all roofing types?
Mandatory under metal roofing. For bituminous shingles, smaller gaps are acceptable.
What insulation thickness is needed for an attic in Kyiv?
Minimum 200 mm of mineral wool (or 150 mm of XPS) for roof. For attic walls — from 150 mm.
Can insulation be added from inside without removing the roofing?
Yes, if attic access is available. But optimal is during new roof installation.
