Wooden houses made of timber are becoming more and more popular every year. They are beautiful, inexpensive, safe, built from natural materials in a short time. Modern technologies make it possible to make them resistant to rot and pests, warm and durable.
Types of timber houses
Houses made of timber vary in configuration, purpose, number of storeys, types of timber.
- These are cottages for year-round use, built from large-diameter timber with high thermal insulation properties.
- One - two-story buildings with mansard roofs, usually built from profiled timber, have a very attractive appearance.
- Summer cottages and houses intended for seasonal use are several times cheaper than brick buildings, as they are easy to assemble and do not require expensive finishing.

Natural wood is perfect for building baths, saunas, and holiday homes. Wood gently regulates temperature and humidity, which makes it an indispensable material for such structures.
For the construction of garages, sheds and other outbuildings, timber is used in combination with foam concrete, which makes them durable and inexpensive.
In terms of material, wooden houses come in several types. These are log houses, housing made of solid rounded, profiled and non-profiled timber, glued and insulated.
Logs are built from debarked logs, which are manually leveled with a plane. They do not require external finishing and look natural and unique.
In addition, there are many ways to connect crowns: on a plug-in beam, in half a tree, “in a bowl”, “in a paw”, and others, which have their own advantages and disadvantages and are used depending on the purpose of the structure and the type of beam.
Features of construction of wooden houses
The construction of any house begins with a foundation. The foundation for a house made of timber is selected depending on the purpose of the building:
- if these are lightweight buildings, then a columnar foundation is used;
- for more massive buildings - tape, up to 70 cm deep;
- It is advisable to build two-story houses on a bored pile foundation.
Roofing on houses made of timber is used in different ways: it can be soft tiles, ondulin and popular metal tiles. The main thing is that it serves reliably and does not spoil the appearance of the house.
Housing built from glued and rounded timber does not require external cladding. For houses made of other types of timber, cladding is desirable. It should be remembered that it must begin no earlier than a year after the construction of the building. This time is necessary for shrinkage.
You can use wood lining, siding or wood-polymer lining, which is resistant to moisture, rotting and aesthetically pleasing.

Houses made of timber, intended for year-round use, must be warm. For this purpose,insulations are used. Ecowool is ideal for buildings made of timber as it has good thermal insulation, does not burn, is resistant to temperature changes, does not interfere with room ventilation, is non-toxic, does not mold and is used for external and internal insulation.
Heating of houses made of timber is the same as that of buildings made of other materials, but requires special attention to fire safety measures. First of all, this applies to electrical appliances and electrical wiring in general.
You cannot install hidden electrical wiring using plastic corrugation or ducts in wooden dwellings. The wires are laid in metal pipes or made open.
Knowing and taking into account the features of the building, you can build a comfortable, safe, environmentally friendly home, living in which will bring you real pleasure.
